What is soy wax?

At Little Melties, we only use 100% soy wax. Soy wax is made from soybeans, a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by local farmers whereas paraffin is made from petroleum. A wax melt made from soy wax burns cleaner with little soot released as the melt burns. Paraffin wax melts often create a significant amount of black soot that collects on your walls and other surfaces of the home. The soy melt may accumulate some black soot but the amount is much less than paraffin candles. Soy melts are also non-toxic, so they won't release toxins into the air as they burn. Soy melts typically last longer than a paraffin melt of the same size. The reason behind the longevity of soy melts is the slower burning time and cooler burning temperature of the soybean-based wax. You may pay more for a soy melt initially but the longer-lasting burn means you won't have to buy new melts as often. Soy wax is also biodegradable, making it an investment that benefits the environment.

What's the difference between a wax melt and a candle?

Wax melts absorb heat slower than traditional candles and therefore are able to release aromas without burning the oils. This gives the wax the ability to continue releasing the fragrance without the scent evaporating quickly. When you burn a candle, the opposite happens. The heat from the flame of a candle makes the wax maintain a higher temperature, causing the fragrance to diffuse into the air faster.

Wax melts are cheaper than traditional candles because they waste less fragrance and burn for longer. The burn time per ounce of wax melts is up to almost 5x longer than traditional candles.

Is your packaging recyclable?

The packaging for our Little Melties pots are made out of recycled sugar cane, not plastic and are therefore compostable and biodegradable.

Before disposing of the pot and lid, please remove all labels. If you have a compost heap at home, your pot can be placed in it. If your food waste is collected separately, you can dispose of the pot in your food waste. If you don't have either, please dispose the pot in the general waste bin and it will biodegrade in landfill. Our pots have all the correct markings to confirm they are compostable.

The packaging for our Little Melties box is both recyclable and biodegradable. Please remove the ribbon and then dispose of it in your recycling bin.

Are your melts vegan?

Yes, we only use vegan ingredients and our products and ingredients are not tested on animals.
